Lose
all the weight you want,
fall in
love with your soul mate,
make millions
of dollars . . .
Why don't all of those
self-help books actually work?

Here we go, the last
few days of the year and oh my, it’s happened too fast! I love being in
the moment and accepting what is as only today’s reality. I revel in knowing
that each day is a brand new beginning.
The New Year adds double
emphasis to analyze what we see is going on in our lives but more importantly,
what we’re not looking at. What have you been willing to overlook?
Is your health what it should be? What can you do to improve your physical
appearance? Are you spending quality time with your family and friends?
It’s just as important
to celebrate the wins we have in life. When I accomplish something special,
I have several tactics to celebrate that will leave a long-term memory.
One is to buy a ring another is to buy a very special dress. The rings
are life long reminder of my milestone successes. The dresses remind me
of how special it is to accomplish what I set out to achieve.
Are you celebrating
your wins? What can you do to bring more accomplishment into your life?
First, acknowledge the success and then remind yourself daily. The longer
you hold onto the feeling, the more success you’ll attract.
Happy New Year and I
truly hope that 2009 is the best year you’ve ever had.

Can you imagine Christmas
is just a few days away? The year is winding down quickly and it’s time
to prepare for the New Year!
What are you planning
for the upcoming year? Do you want more of the same? What changes do you
want in your life? Are you happy with your job? Are your relationships
all that they should be? Can you change what you are not comfortable with?
One simple alteration to your attitude or routine can change everyone you
come in contact with.
Take the time to look
at all aspects of your life. You’ll find that you truly are the one in
control here. If you don’t have enough money, take a step back and think
of what you could do to increase your income or reduce your expenses.
If you realize that
every day provides an opportunity to create a brand new you, you’ll see
that it’s never too late to change. It all starts with you.

I have watched as people
have succumbed to the stress of the holidays and I am saddened to think
that they have completely missed the point of the season. Or maybe it’s
their survival tactics but what a waste of energy.
I know that I was one
of them about 23 years ago. I remember it so clearly. I had worked in the
corporate environment for eight years and I had more road rage than common
sense. I was swearing all of the time and seemed to live in the midst of
anger. I slept fitfully, had ulcers and spent a great deal of time at the
doctors.
I didn’t purposely set
out to change; it was a quiet metamorphism that took no less than ten years.
I lost my corporate job, believing at the time it was the worst thing that
could have ever happened to me, yet it was the best!
Without the corporate
stress, I began to let go of the stress, I stopped needing to see a doctor
on a regular bases. I began to talk time out to relax and soon began to
discover new tools that helped me understand a way of life that was more
in line with whom I am or who I had meant to be.
Stress is a matter of
choice. It affects everyone around us, but sadly it hurts the ones who
stress more than anyone else. Choose wisely.

You do not have to make
someone else wrong to make yourself right!
I have been listening
to a friend who is going through a painful breakup and it’s part of the
job description to be a good listener when friends are going through difficult
times. And I do so willingly, but to a point.
I’m not sure what happened,
but the healthier I got with my life, the less tolerant I became of others
who don’t make the effort to get their life in order. We all go through
challenges, but when the challenge is the same over and over again, it’s
time to take a look in the mirror and figure out why we’re making choices
that aren’t working for us.
Point in case: my friend
went through a divorce a year ago and now breaking up with the love of
his life. The stories are nearly the same, just a different person. So
I am not as patient this time around.
Are we doing people
a favor be listening to their woes when they never change their patterns?
Or is it more important to hold up the mirror for them, in a gentle way
so they can see what they are doing by choosing their circumstances.
Making the other person
the bad guy does not make the other the good guy. Being right does not
make the other person wrong.
More important is how
we handle each situation. How do we show up for others even when they are
not taking the high road? Does it matter ten years from now that you had
to be right?
What matters is that
we always show up being the best we can muster.

I’m starting a new series
this month called “Be Your Own Boss Guide”. It is designed to help those
who have been laid off and help them figure out what they can do that is
suited to their personality.
I speak to several groups
at outplacement services and I am frustrated with the lack of resources
for all of those who have lost their jobs. In this hiring climate, it will
be very difficult for them to replace their income.
The only solution at
this point is to create a new business. It would be better to start their
own business, even if they have to join with someone who has the skills
that they don’t have. It would be better to be involved in a franchise
than to go back into the job market, if they can find a job, they’ll end
up having to go through the process again within two years.
I don’t want people
to experience this devastating scenario over and over. It’s time to take
responsibility for their future and look at how becoming an entrepreneur
can change their life.
If you know of anyone
looking for a job, talk to them about how they could start their own business.
If you were to take
30 minutes each day and work toward that goal, in one month, you would
have spent 10 hours working towards your ideal!
Go for it! |
